		<description>A very good analysis.  This novel suffers from Smiley&#039;s presence, Westerby&#039;s own shortcomings become glaring, painful and labored.  Instead of appearing chivalrous or even &quot;honourable&quot;, like Alec Lemas, Westerby comes off stupid, controlled only by his desires and impulses.  Perhaps this is as it should be, I mean how many George Smileys&#039; really exist among us?  But for a read it comes off quite weak and out of place compared to the brilliance of the other two novels.</description>
